FULL SYNOPSIS: Two half-sisters have detested each other since birth. Isabel the overachiever and family favorite, versus Leeza the "black sheep", both figuratively and literally. When their eccentric grandmother dies and they both turn up at the cabin she left them in her will, their bickering is soon overshadowed by an even greater menace. Trapped by unknown assailants in the dark of the night, they must choose between self-preservation at all costs and a combined effort to escape. The next few hours will determine whether blood --even half blood-- is thicker than water as multiple reveals are shared.

This character-driven, sophisticated thriller combines audience-pleasing elements of the gore genre with dramatic sequences of connection and emotional intensity. “Half Sisters” is the story of how superficial contrasts mask hidden connections, challenging preconceived notions about race, family, and belonging. By framing the conversation on social justice through an intergenerational and interpersonal lens within a family, the film exposes the unquestioned racism of the culture at large.

The action-packed and exciting "Half-Sisters" is also uniquely poised to qualify for the ReFrame Stamp, which is awarded to films that feature women and people of color both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

MOVIE THEME: RACE Racism is a global problem which has been elevated to the top of the American zeitgeist lately. Half Sisters confronts the systematic racism in our history in an authentic and realistic way. I want to challenge the paradigm of subtle and not so subtle racism and shine a spotlight on perceived notions. Passive aggressive behavior perpetuates this unacceptable behavior and this film attempts to bring this issue front and center.

As we progress toward a “post-racial” society, Half Sisters will serve as a conversation starter to engage audiences worldwide. Prejudice being exemplified through ignorance and age cannot serve as an excuse to further perpetuate this inhumane behavior. It stops now.

DIRECTOR BIO: Devin Fei-Fan Tau Devin (鈄非凡) is a gay, Asian-American filmmaker whose storytelling speaks out against the imposed silence he experienced from both his native and adopted cultures since immigrating to the United States as a child four decades ago.
